Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator uses JavaScript's exponential notation to split the number into a mantissa and an exponent. For example, 123000 becomes 1.23 × 10^5.

It multiplies the mantissa by 10 raised to the power of the exponent you enter, i.e. Standard Value = Mantissa × 10^Exponent. For example, 1.23 × 10^5 becomes 123000.

Zero is a special case that is shown as 0 × 10^0, since it has no meaningful mantissa or exponent in scientific notation.
